In a world of large consumption the
school should teach the adolescents how to become and behave as reasonable
consumers who are able to make informed choices and take care of their and
their relatives' health.
Our project team feels the need to
develop a greater awareness of the problems concerning sedentary lifestyle,
non-reasonable diets and substance addiction facing members of society within
schools and wider communities. We would like to encourage our participants to
be more open-minded and understanding of the expectations our societies have
towards them and realise how the whole community can benefit from healthier
people.
We believe there is more to becoming
a successful student than academic success - the development of the whole
adolescent. It is essential to promote a healthy and balanced attitude towards
life and encourage students to protect themselves against the threats that may
hinder their potential.
Our project team believes in the
role of schools in establishing lifestyle changes and helping our children lead
healthier lives. We will also direct our efforts towards campaigns promoting
substance clean young people who are able to control their own lives.
Our project team will encourage
research work (the effect of physical activity on academic performance, BMI,
nutrients and health), provide helpful info, support healthy choices, initiate
campaigns aimed at healthy diets, water drinking, against substance addiction
and promote physical activity. We will promote cutting down on screen time and
strengthening the cardio system through sports and dances.
Through the introduction of healthy lifestyle in our
schools we will improve academic performance among our students. The
participants will realise that students who maintain a balanced diet miss fewer
days of school due to illness; students who engage in regular physical activity
have a better attitude towards school; students who regularly exercise and do
not misuse substances and alcohol show reduced signs of hyperactivity and
aggression; sports promote self-esteem and independence; students display less
disruptive behavior as a consequence of regular physical activity; students who
eat well and exercise regularly show fewer signs of anxiety or depression.
We believe that upon the end of the project our
schools will be distinguished as centres of healthy lifestyle in our regions
and towns.
Working on internationally based
projects adds value to the students’ concrete results and outcomes and provides
them with new chances to share and compare knowledge and skills with peers whom
they are normally not able to communicate with.
Being realised in a multicultural
environment, the project cooperation also acts as a motivation tool and
stimulus for the students to master their fluency in foreign languages and ICT
and foster their capability to accept and respect other nations, religions,
cultures, etc.
